Heads up. Crowns On.

When you’re a creative of color like I am, sometimes your work is judged without context. And as a result it goes unseen or ends up being edited so much that it is unrecognizable. Do it anyway. Express yourself and go outside the lanes created for you. Don’t just go outside the box…destroy it. Revolutionize ordinary and kick the status quo’s a*s! Put your own sauce on it and don’t take it personal. Because if you’re not a wizard it’s hard to understand magic.

I love watching UCLA’s women’s gymnastics team decimate what the floor routines are “supposed” to be. These girls do this all day every day and are still collecting titles! So let’s go after this week with purpose. Heads up. Crowns on!

Some of the rule breakers I look to for inspiration…

Virgil Abloh was the ultimate box destroyer.

Trained as an architect he took his knowledge of shapes and angles to the runway. Check out this GQ article that talks about how he created a new blueprint for fashion. RIP

Tatenda Chidora is creating a new South African aesthetic in photography.

Check out his stunning work and how he uses light and space to make his subjects heroic!

June Ambrose is making waves at Puma in a good way. She’s bringing hip hop culture to athletic wear. Duh.

Check out what Vogue had to say about the groundbreaker and her new High Court Collection.
